A Review of Scotland’s Landscape Charter – Your Input

We are undertaking an independent review of the Charter and would welcome early input from organisations and individuals who have a connection and commitment to Scotland’s landscapes.

Scotland’s Landscape Alliance is proposing to undertake an independent review of the Scotlands Landscape Charter which could lead to the publication of refreshed charter.  The review will explore the extent to which the current charter has supported effective management of Scotland’s landscapes, and how it might be refreshed to help shape future landscape ambitions and collaborative action.  We have posed a few questions and we would love to hear your views on them online via this link.

To enable us to progress our review we would like to receive your comments by Friday 12th January 2024.

Such a review has been welcomed by the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Land Reform and the Islands –

‘to reflect significant changes to the Scottish Government’s policy environment since 2010, to highlight Scotland’s commitment to the European Landscape Convention, and to demonstrate commitment to sensitively managing the significant landscape change needed to address the climate and nature emergencies we face’

Scotland’s Landscape Charter

Scotland’s landscapes are renowned for their richness, diversity and distinctiveness. They provide the context for all our lives and livelihoods and its stewardship is therefore of the utmost importance to progressing our collective ambitions for nature, climate and people. Their value was recognised in 2010 through the publication of Scotlands Landscape Charter. This set out a vision for the future and identified key actions that we can all take to ensure they are carefully managed for future generations.
