Scotland’s Landscape Charter

Action Plan

Delivering The Charter

Valuing and taking responsibility for Scotland’s landscapes requires a collaborative approach amongst all organisations and people involved in matters that affect our landscapes. This 5-Year Action Plan  published June 2026 will support the implementation of the Charter and has been developed, following our stakeholder event held on 30 October 2025,  and with the support of a working group in Spring 2026.

The plan also links with the NatureScot and Historic Environment Scotland joint ‘People Place and Landscape Statement’ and its refreshed Action Plan, that sets out the vision and approach for managing change in Scotland’s landscape, and which will also support the work of the Charter.

Our intent is to deliver this five-year Action Plan in collaboration with the landscape community in Scotland between 2026 to 2031 and our priorities for the first year ( 2026-2027)  can be read here.

The SLA  Executive Committee will lead some actions but would encourage others to lead actions or participate to enable us to achieve more to safeguard Scotland’s landscapes. If there is a topic area you are particularly interested in, please get in touch via  info@scotlandslandscapealliance.org

The SLA annual event on the 28th October 2026 at the Edinburgh Climate change Institute will be a key point in the year both to report on progress and to explore next steps and emerging work areas.  I hope you can join us there – more details will follow.

Greater numbers of people are actively participating in landscape at all levels and are positively engaged in landscape decision-making

Read the Charter

This charter is about promoting awareness of the critical contribution of the landscape to all our lives and to promote the action required to maximise the many benefits they bring now and for the future.
